BIO

The songs of Tamara Silvera are deceptive.  They seem simple enough  - cut from the familiar cloth of pop music. Listen a few times, though, and you will find an unexpected depth and intensity that belies the simplicity of first impressions.  In short, the music really grows on you.    SINK OR SWIM, her debut solo release spawned notable placements in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and THE GHOST WHISPERER.   DEPARTURES, her second solo release is a collection of songs that chronicle loss, change and the personal evolution that leads to redemption.

Silvera writes her music from a broad spectrum of musical influences:  John Lennon,  Thom Bell,  Elton John, Burt Bacharach and Todd Rundgren to name a few.  Her childhood spent studying classical piano and voice led to an exploration of decidely  un-popular music in various garage bands playing King Crimson and Yes.   Her early professional career included playing keyboards and singing back-up vocals for a number of local Toronto bands (Whitenoise, Johnny MacLeod, Pukka Orchestra, Aceboy).  "I learned a lot about songwriting in those days.  I played for such a diverse group of people - they had very different styles but they were all great writers and I was really learning how to construct  a great  song."

In 1989, Silvera moved to Los Angeles expanding her influences to include alt-country, traditional African-American Gospel, jazz and film scores.  In collaboration with her longtime producer and husband JOHN WHYNOT, Tamara Silvera continues to push outward into the wilds of songwriting, on the hunt for more big game.
